Although we just opened our doors in June 2025, Why Knot Massage & Self Care in Fairview Heights has been in the back of Founder & CEO Sabrina Luttrell-Andrews mind for 10-15 years but didn’t think it would ever happen. When her husband died in 2019, he left her money to go back to school under his GI bill from serving in the Air Force.
Luttrell-Andrews decided in 2022 to go back to school to become a licensed massage therapist. After getting her license, she began working at Massage Luxe to get experience and learn more about the business end of the field and worked as a mobile massage therapist part time.
During her time at Massage Luxe, Luttrell-Andrews decided she did not want to have a membership program because it makes customers feel locked in. Instead, Luttrell-Andrews wanted to make services more affordable, so when a customer comes in for the first time, they become a customer for life.
Luttrell-Andrews also knew she wanted to offer more than massage since she always been a helper and knew because of her background as a retired Air Force medical administrator. This led her to the business’ philosophy of “self-care is not optional, it’s necessary”. Because of its necessity, Why Knot Massage & Self-Care also offers assisted stretching, skin care, and self-care parties, all performed by highly trained and licensed individuals.
Massages are done by Luttrell-Andrews herself and are available in 60-90 minute time slots and include prenatal, Swedish, deep tissue, and hot stone. Our esthetician services are about more than looking younger- they are about keeping your skin healthy by providing deep cleaning, repair services, and teaching you how to care for your skin at home between appointments. Assisted stretching is excellent for those with tight muscles that are reducing their range of motion.
Each month, customers can try new experiences with monthly specials available only on specific days of the week.
As a self-care business, Luttrell-Andrews wants her staff to know that their self-care is important too and offers a free service each month and an additional service each month for 50% off. Family members receive 25% off one service a month.
Luttrell-Andrews selected the location after one of her Massage Luxe clients told her a former hair salon was available on Old Collinsville Road. As a Fairview Heights resident, Luttrell-Andrews felt this was the perfect location to focus on helping her community. Plans to expand into a soon to be vacated space of the building are being developed to add additional services.
The next service we are preparing to launch is infrared saunas. Infra-red saunas warm you up from the inside and heal different parts of the body with different colors of light. Unlike a tanning bed, the saunas work even if you are fully dressed.
Because mental health is an important part of self-care, Why Knot Massage and Self-Care is also planning on offering telehealth services. Having a private space at our center for our clients to meet with a mental health professional without going to a mental health practitioner’s office and schedule some “me-time” in the same visit.
At Why Knot Massage and Self-Care, we understand that self-care isn’t just for women to spend time alone. Self-care may look like spending time relaxing with your girlfriends or time with your significant other relaxing away from the kids. Men, especially those in the trades and construction, benefit from massages, stretching, and skin services as women.
We also want to express our gratitude to the community for trusting us with their number one commodity- their health. Keep checking back to our website and social media to hear about upcoming events.
